Computing Disciplines -What Textbook Don't Tell You ;)

Hello world! Everyday feeling excited to fill in something on this blog. On this post, I would like to share some information about Computing Disciplines. I studied this topic on week two of my CTT1013 course, my lecturer provided me with slides and I’m done self study with it. I hope this writing would be a symbiosis interaction between you and me that going to benefit both ;)

First of all, I would like to ask you, is Computer Science is a philosophy? Or is it science, mathematics, engineering, art? Other? If you can sense of the discipline, how would Computer Science fit into its meaning? 

Generally, there are five type of computing discipline:

1.    Computer Science

2.    Software Engineering

3.    Information System

4.    Cognitive Science

5.    Computer Engineering

Come on, more is better than less. Instead of focusing on Computer Science only lets broaden our knowledge on knowing the difference of this all computing disciplines. 

Computer science generally is the mother of all computational disciplines that covers the applied mathematics, whereas Computer Engineering is more focusing the study of hardware, software, communications, and the interaction among them.

                    

   

So what is software engineering now? Let’s define this term with illustrations because I believe that picture explains thousand meanings.

                         

                           

Now, Information System and Cognitive Science left. Up up here we go, let’s get to know things behind this principles.

Information System is an academic field, why? Because it encompasses in two broad area. What is that?

1.    The information systems function

2.    Systems development

The last principle is Cognitive Science. The fundamental concept of cognitive science is 

"that thinking can best be understood in terms of representational structures in the mind and computational procedures that operate on those structures".
